About Us
The University of Connecticut, the state’s flagship
public research university, was founded in 1881. In just
over 125 years, the University has emerged as the top public
university in New England and one of the top 25 public
universities in the nation. In fulfilling its mission as a
land, sea, and space grant institution, the University of
Connecticut has developed a well-rounded portfolio of
academic and research achievements in fields related to
clinical and translational science, including biological and
physical sciences, social sciences, allied health sciences,
and engineering sciences. The University of Connecticut
Health Center was founded in 1961 and provides a home
for our Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine as well as
graduate programs in basic biomedical sciences. The Health
Center has gained international acclaim for its curricular innovations
in medical education at the undergraduate level while also
developing a strong network of partnerships with private
community hospitals to grow community-based medical
residencies and faculty. These partnerships represent an
important pre-existing asset that we have leveraged to
facilitate the dissemination of the outcomes of clinical
research to community practice.
In short, the University of Connecticut already possesses
well-established expertise in biomedical science, clinical
trials, and community and public health within its colleges
and across its faculty, staff, and students, as well as
strong ties to private hospitals through our medical
education programs. The role of the Institute is to
coordinate
the activities of several successful, cutting edge resources
